Samurai Culture Week: Samurai on screen and paper
-
18 November 2021
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM - Lecture Hall B2.23
The samurai were not only a specific stratum of Japanese society with its own developed culture, but they also became a grateful source and inspiration in modern literary and cinematic works. Dr. Martin Tirala's lecture will introduce the image of the samurai in modern Japanese literature and film. The lecturer is a leading Czech expert on Japanese film, aesthetics, and literature and has extensive experience in translating Japanese literature with samurai themes.
The lecture is part of a series of five lectures and discussions on samurai culture, both material (the Japanese sword and its accessories) and spiritual and symbolic (history, humor, depiction of the samurai). The aim of the series is to introduce the knowledge of Japanese culture in the tradition of the Faculty of Arts of MU, which has long sought to be a bridge between nations and cultures through mutual understanding.
The event is part of the celebration of the centenary of the beginning of teaching at the Faculty of Arts and the Humanities Week.
