Is Self-Control more important than Intelligence for Academic Achievement?

Professor Alexander Vazsonyi from the University of Kentucky will present the results of the Brno Longitudinal Study of Youth, a joint project with Professor Marek Blatný from the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.
The current study tested whether self-control, a measure of the so called “soft skills,” longitudinally predicted academic achievement in a large sample of Czech early adolescence part of the Brno Longitudinal Study of Youth (BLSY) above and beyond intelligence, and whether academic motivation or school attachment uniquely predicted variability above and beyond these observed effects.
